The aim of the family fitness sessions is to encourage the family as a unit to train whilst having fun together, regardless of age. It is a known fact that the UK faces an obesity epidemic, and an increase in type 2 diabetes which needs to be resolved as this puts a huge strain on the NHS. By realising the importance from a young age of the need to keep fit and healthy, I hope my sessions will instil a discipline and enjoyment of sport and encourage a healthy living environment.
The idea stemmed from regular requests from the mothers of my women’s boxcercise class I hold throughout the week requesting I also deliver a similar class for their children. Many parents were unable to attend my classes due to a lack of childcare.
Being a role model as a parent is important by working out with your child / children will encourage a strong bond and an engagement some families may never experience.
The classes are for an hour. The classes consist of stretches, warm up techniques and cardiovascular activities suitable for all the family. I play a number of fun games which will encourage movement. I also teach non-contact boxing techniques. Team work and group work will play an important part of the project.
On dry days working outside is great. The Vitamin D from the sun is of a real benefit. On wet days we can take shelter in indoor space. I encourage parents to bring waterproof jackets to work out when there is a light drizzle.
In terms of caring for the children I will be encouraging the families to look after each others children.
The first class is half price at £5.00 thereafter the classes are £10.00 per session
